Airgun

Airgun: Tuning HW77

My airgun fever will probably not ended very soon… in fact is getting acute now.. :). After using my HW77 for about 2000 pellets (past of break ins period), I am pretty pleased with performance. It can be considered as quite accurate with RWS Superdome or Crosman Premier 7.9. in multi range sillhouette target, I can knock down around 8-10 target, its not bad..! But I want more..! :D.

As you may aware that springers are very well known for its recoil and twang, HW77 is no exception, although it is quite managable… I heard I can tune it even better. So with the help of Google, I learn many brands of tuning kit and read their reviews and even learn how can I tune it myself.. :). You can have tuning kits below (on the order from the most expensive to the least expensive):

There are others but I just listed down three Tune Kits above. Both Vmach and Vortex are well known, and always have good review, Target Tunes have mixed review, but when you really read the review it is mostly down to the communication and also longer shipping time, but not much of the product quality…

So with a cheaper shipping option and cheaper price and seems very good product, I choose Target tunes India to by my HW77 tuning kit, I ordered the full power kit (its probably other way of saying FAC kit). And the product arrived 14 days later… I do not mind waiting if I got a good product at cheaper price.. :). Inspecting the product, I do not know about Vmach and Vortex, but Target tunes product seems good quality…

Interesting things is… although the shipping cost is fixed $3, no way you can ship this product at $3 using registered mail… I am pretty sure target tune is subsidizing the shipping cost… because they subsidizing it, they will choose the cheapest option. This will be a major pain for someone who not patient enough.

Installing the Kits

Now installing the tuning kits.. there are a lot of video and step by step dismantling HW77 so I am not repeat it here… but few picts for you on the tune kits installation

The tune kits consist of..: (taken from their website)

Dismantling HW77

Do not dismantling HW77 without This tool (trekker)

Dismantling HW77 2

See the spring pre-load..? without the trekker it will be quite dangerous..

Comparison Original spring and guide (without top Head) and Tuning kits (with top head), the original guide seems fit quite OK, I wonder what brass guide will make any difference

Spring end… original and tune kit…

Problem…

This tune kits comes with one blue piston seal, to my surprise it does not fit to the compression chamber… my HW77 was made in 2005 so it should be 26mm. I did measure the blue seal though it is indeed 26 mm… do I get 25mm compression chamber built in 2005? or may be because my HW77 is still new so it is very tight fit. Have no chance measuring the chamber now, I will later… for now I am using original seal which is still in good condition.

Performance:

Boy… when they said full power tune kit, they mean it… crosman premier 7.9 pellets go supersonic… may be because detonation (I did not clean the chamber thoroughly). The twang is much less but recoil still there (you can not fully eliminate it though). The cocking effort bit heavier compare to previous set up… in terms of power, it probably reached 18fpe.. will borrow chronograph later to confirm this…

Iam not power hungry, actually I want to have 15fpe or max 16 fpe, my ideal set up would be crosman premier or superdome at 900 fps with smoother recoil, lighter cocking effort and twang free… Target tunes recommend to take out the top head… will do later, after checking the accuracy of this set up…

Stay tuned (pun intended) cherio for now… :)

Pelajaran untuk menjadi Sniper (long range shooting)

kemudian Understanding minute of angle:

dan juga Understanding Mils (miliradiant)

terus Wind estimation and compesation

akhirnya: shooting at angles..

airgun: Break in your new airgun

Sebenarnya apa itu break-in

Bagaimana caranya Break-in

Seperti juga mobil baru, cara break in senapan adalah menggunakannya. Beberapa orang mengatakan sampai dengan 500 peluru.. bahkan beberapa orang suggest sampai dengan 5000 peluru.. :).

Airgun: First try HW77 Zeroing…

metallic silhouette target range

Grouping HW77, before tightening the bolt and screws

HW77 grouping at 27 meter after tightening bolts and screws

HW77 grouping, 41 meter crossman premier 7.9 gr

Demikian laporannya mudah mudahan berguna

Airgun is not a toy, safety rules (contain graphic picture)

Airgun is not a toy… That is the first rule that everyone to need to know… it’s a gun.. so it is our  (Adult) responsibility to store it safely … there are some incident where kids got the airgun and they use it to shoot their friend, causing a very serious injury… you can read it one in here…:

http://www.tribunnews.com/2010/09/04/teman-anak-gubernur-jabar-tembak-rekannya

Especially for under leaver and break barrel can very dangerous for the shooter… remember that I said it can bite you if you are not very careful…? well this is the proof:

Its not me, but we can all learn from the others… here is a video to show that even someone who already very experienced in the airgun get part of his thumb amputated

While you watch the video, you can read 10 rule of thumb (pun intended) for safety measure…

Ten Shooting Safety Rules:

  1. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
There are several safe “carries” depending on the situation. NEVER ALLOW THE MUZZLE TO POINT IN THE DIRECTION OF A PERSON.
  2. Treat every gun as if it were loaded.
You can never be positive that you were the last person to handle the gun. Never take anyone’s word about whether or not a gun is loaded. Always check a gun to see if it is loaded when removed from storage or received from another person. ALWAYS TREAT A GUN AS IF IT IS LOADED EVEN IF YOU KNOW IT ISN’T.
  3. Only load or cock a gun when you are shooting.
A loaded gun has no place in your home or other place.
  4. Check your target and beyond your target.
Be sure all persons are well clear of the target area before you shoot. Check behind and beyond your target to be certain you have a safe backstop and that no person or property could be endangered.
  5. Anyone shooting or near a shooter should wear shooting glasses.
Also, all other persons should remain behind the shooter.
  6. Never climb or jump with a gun.
You can’t control the direction of the muzzle if you stumble or fall. You should safely lay the gun down or hand it to a companion while you climb or jump over anything.
  7. Avoid ricochet.
Never shoot at a flat hard surface or at the surface of water. Ammunition can ricochet off of water just like a skipped rock.
  8. Keep the muzzle clear.
Never let anything obstruct the muzzle of a gun. Don’t allow the muzzle to come in contact with the ground.
  9. Guns not in use should always be unloaded.
Keeping guns unloaded when not in use is critical to the safety of you and others. When you are finished shooting, put the trigger safety in the “on” position and unload the gun. Store guns so that they are inaccessible to untrained shooters and store ammunition separately from the gun.
  10. Respect other people’s property.
Whether you’re target shooting or hunting, if you’re a guest on others’ land, you should leave it exactly as you found it.

Do you need a permit (license) to have an airgun – Part 1

If you live in Indonesia… the answer is… unfortunately : “YES..!” due to the recent change in the Police regulation which just recently passed.  Now we need to have a special licence for all airgun.. I mean for ALL TYPE OF AIRGUN regardless the caliber… that includes:

  • Spring air gun
  • PCP airgun
  • Handpump Airgun
  • AirSOFTgun

Not sure why police now want to regulate 4.5mm (0.177 inch), and it is very confusing how to get the licence, I heard here and there, some says it will be very difficult and some says it will be very easy… I plan to get the licence of my new airgun, and I will update you for this…

As to why the police now regulate the airgun, I think I have pretty good idea about it… they are so paranoid because the airgun (mostly replica) can be used to scare people and use it for crime… that is why Airsoftgun also being regulated now…

Despite their best intention, I think this will potentially kill the hobby, sport and industry… and some police already use the confusion to make the case… I am sure they will take bribe too… look here how they pose like a boss after raiding airsoftgun store…

will update you on this later… Cheers fornow

Airgun: Introducing my New Weihrauch HW77 … :)

It is very difficult to get TX200 in Indonesia, and slightly difficult to get HW77 new in box as well, however when I search in Internet I found someone selling HW77 new in Box… how come..? I thought it is just a scam, so I asked my friend to check it to Jawa timur and he confirmed that this is indeed new in box HW77… So without further ado I bargained and get it at around 7.500.000 or around US$ 750

Yes it is expensive to get airgun in Indonesia, but it will be impossible to buy it online… one does not simply import “gun” :) only people who know their business can import it. so I consider the $750 is a fair price… not a very good deal but fair..

So here is the package has came yesterday.. I feel like Christmas has come early.. :)

Open it up.. here is the box… German box..

And here is the beast inside the box

And out of the box, here it is..

And here is my set up.. I added: Scope, one piece mounting and that’s all really… and see how it performs later.. today I just open  the box and setting up the scope… what is the total cost for HW77 below..?

  • HW77 : US$750
  • One piece scope mounting US$: 50
  • Scope: US$ 100
  • TOTAL: US$ 900
