Beberapa minggu lalu sebelum masuk ramadhan, beberapa teman mengajak berburu tupai lagi… seperti bisasa saya membawa HW77 (karena memang itu yang saya punya)

Dan ini adalah hasil perburuan kita, kira2 sekitar 20 an ekor… semua kami masak dan dimakan, hewan ini talh menjadi hama di perkebunan kelapa daerah jawa barat… sehingga perburuan ini tidak mengancam ekosistem

After few times I visited local range, few of airgun friends ask me to join squirrel hunting.. at first I hesitate because I don’t really into hunting, I prefer them to live and coexist with us, but they convinced me that squirrel is becoming a big problem (pest) in the coconut plantation somewhere in W. Java. So I will not do any harm taking out few of them and I will actually help the coconut farmer. Update tuning HW77 after 500 pellets

Now the gun is already past 500 pellets after the full power tune, this is what happened:

  1. The vibration (twang) is back quite noticable… not sure what happened, should I dismantle it to check if something is broken..?
  2. A lot of dieseling on the first 100 pellets… that is explain a lot faster velocity for the crosman premier 7.9 gr, after dieseling subsided the gun is no longer like the JSB exact heavies, it prefers Crosman premier 7.9 again…! :)
  3. The velocity is still higher compare to the pre-tune, I notice a flatter trajectory compare to pretune…
  4. Still cock harder than pre-tune.

Now, if I have stop now… my recommendation for this target tunes kit is good to improve hunting capabilities of HW77. Not for FT due to the twang or vibration is still quite noticeable.

Yesterday my friend borrow this gun for dove hunting (legal hunting), he got few of them…if you not into hunting please do not click this… graphic image. For the record, I prefer birds to live and sing, but I am not anti (sensible and responsible) hunting…

After tuning my HW77 by replacing its spring, spring guide, added top head and sleeve… The power seems significantly increase… but as you might aware, the power means nothing if it is not accurate / precise. Now I have chance to try my Tuned HW77 in shooting range to see if the accuracy is the same before tuned.

First of all, this is the accuracy at 27 meters using Crosman premier 7.9 gr , let’s use it as the base or bench mark, BTW the coin is exactly 1 inch diameter…

My airgun fever will probably not ended very soon… in fact is getting acute now.. :). After using my HW77 for about 2000 pellets (past of break ins period), I am pretty pleased with performance. It can be considered as quite accurate with RWS Superdome or Crosman Premier 7.9. in multi range sillhouette target, I can knock down around 8-10 target, its not bad..! But I want more..! :D.

As you may aware that springers are very well known for its recoil and twang, HW77 is no exception, although it is quite managable… I heard I can tune it even better. So with the help of Google, I learn many brands of tuning kit and read their reviews and even learn how can I tune it myself.. :). You can have tuning kits below (on the order from the most expensive to the least expensive):

There are others but I just listed down three Tune Kits above. Both Vmach and Vortex are well known, and always have good review, Target Tunes have mixed review, but when you really read the review it is mostly down to the communication and also longer shipping time, but not much of the product quality…

So with a cheaper shipping option and cheaper price and seems very good product, I choose Target tunes India to by my HW77 tuning kit, I ordered the full power kit (its probably other way of saying FAC kit). And the product arrived 14 days later… I do not mind waiting if I got a good product at cheaper price.. :). Inspecting the product, I do not know about Vmach and Vortex, but Target tunes product seems good quality…

Interesting things is… although the shipping cost is fixed $3, no way you can ship this product at $3 using registered mail… I am pretty sure target tune is subsidizing the shipping cost… because they subsidizing it, they will choose the cheapest option. This will be a major pain for someone who not patient enough.

Now installing the tuning kits.. there are a lot of video and step by step dismantling HW77 so I am not repeat it here… but few picts for you on the tune kits installation

See the spring pre-load..? without the trekker it will be quite dangerous..

Comparison Original spring and guide (without top Head) and Tuning kits (with top head), the original guide seems fit quite OK, I wonder what brass guide will make any difference

Problem…

This tune kits comes with one blue piston seal, to my surprise it does not fit to the compression chamber… my HW77 was made in 2005 so it should be 26mm. I did measure the blue seal though it is indeed 26 mm… do I get 25mm compression chamber built in 2005? or may be because my HW77 is still new so it is very tight fit. Have no chance measuring the chamber now, I will later… for now I am using original seal which is still in good condition.

Performance:

Boy… when they said full power tune kit, they mean it… crosman premier 7.9 pellets go supersonic… may be because detonation (I did not clean the chamber thoroughly). The twang is much less but recoil still there (you can not fully eliminate it though). The cocking effort bit heavier compare to previous set up… in terms of power, it probably reached 18fpe.. will borrow chronograph later to confirm this…

Iam not power hungry, actually I want to have 15fpe or max 16 fpe, my ideal set up would be crosman premier or superdome at 900 fps with smoother recoil, lighter cocking effort and twang free… Target tunes recommend to take out the top head… will do later, after checking the accuracy of this set up…

Setelah membaca beberapa artikel, saya baru mengetahui bahwa dibutuhkan masa “break-in” senapan angin yang baru untuk melihat kemampuan sebenarnya…

Sebenarnya apa itu break-in

Pada dasarnya break in itu kalau bahwa kitanya yg sudah jadul adalah “in rijn” (in reyen) yang biasa kita lakukan ketika membeli mobil atau mengganti piston mobil. Supaya komponen di dalamnya dapat “duduk” (bed-in) dengan tepat.

Ketika keluar dari pabrik, banyak komponen yang tidak bisa nge-pas 100% pasti ada bagian komponen yang kasar sehingga kalau bergesekan tidak akan efisien (sehingga berat, cepat panas dll)

Ketika kita melakukan break-in maka yang terjadi komponen yang kasar tadi bergesekan dengan komponen lain sehingga mulai aus dan menjadi lebih halus,persisi seperti ring piston dan rumah pistonnya. ketika semua sudah halus dan menyesuaikan diri antar komponen, maka saat itulah senapan kita memiliki performance puncaknya…

Sebelum breakin ada kemungkinan kecepatan peluru tidak konstan, kurang kencang, terasa kasar dll, sehingga kalau misalkan senapan anda tidak akurat,  mungkin salah satu penyebabnya adalah belum break-in

Bagaimana caranya Break-in

Seperti juga mobil baru, cara break in senapan adalah menggunakannya. Beberapa orang mengatakan sampai dengan 500 peluru.. bahkan beberapa orang suggest sampai dengan 5000 peluru.. :). Tidak ada patokan pasti.. tapi saya percaya apabila sudah lebih dari 1000 peluru (2 kaleng 500an) harusnya sudah bisa dikatakan break in.

HW77 yang saya punya sampai saat ini sudah dipakai menembak sekitar 500 peluru, ketika pertama kali memakainya kecepatan peluru dengan memakai H&N Barracuda match 10.6gr adalah sekitar 765 fps… nanti akan kita lihat kalau sudah seribu tembakan saya akan ukur lagi berapa kecepatannya..

Oh ya jangan takut kalau pas break in anda melihat asap keluar dari laras… itu berarti ada dieseling yang disebabkan oli masuk ke ruang pemampatan dan meledak… HW77 saya tidak menagalaminya.. tetapai kalau anda melihat video yang berikut ini, terlihat asap keluar setelah beberapa kali tembakan

Akhirnya saya memiliki waktu untuk mecoba senapan angin HW77 yang baru minggu lalu saya dapatkan. Sayapun pergi ke lapangan tembak senayan di bagian metallic silhouette. Hari masih pagi sehingga hanya saya yang ada disini. Berikut ini adalah foto senapan dan lapangannya… anda bisa melihat berapa jarak masing masing target metallic silhouette di dalam foto berikut ini:

Sebelum saya menembak target metallic silhouette ini, saya tentunya harus mengkalibrasi scope yang saya pasang (Zeroing), tetapi ketika saya mencoba zeroing di jarak 27 meter, tak bisa dipercaya ternyata senapan ini sangat jelek akurasinya… anda bisa milihat bagaimana grouping dari senapan ini… mungkin lebih bagus sedikit dari ketapel…

Pasti ada yang salah pikir saya… dari literatur yang saya baca ada beberapa hal yang bisa mengakibatkan sebuah senapan angin jelek akurasinya yaitu:

  1. Cara pegangnya salah… untuk springer seperti hw77 ini disarankan menggunakan artilery hold.. yang mungkin saya belum tahu caranya
  2. Pelurunya yang salah.. beberapa senapan angin memang cocok dengan peluru tertentu saja… wah apa HW77 saya tidak menyukai crossman premier 7.9 gr..? masalahnya hanya mimis ini yang saya punya..:(
  3. Popor dan senapan tidak erat baut bautnya, sehingga point of impactnya (POI) pindah pindah… sehingga tidak bisa akurat
  4. dll

So Akhirnya sayapun mengecheck baut baut yang ada ternyata betul saja baut-bautnya kendor sekali… ada dua tempat baut yang mengikat popor yaitu disamping kiri dan kanan

Akhirnya setelah semuanya dikencangkan dan zeroing di jarak 27 meter cukup memuaskan

Dan akhirnya saya mencoba untuk melihat akurasinya di 41 meter… seperti di bawah ini, cukup bagus groupingnya, hanya saja untuk 41meter, POI nya akan bergeser kebawah sekitar 1 inchi, sehingga kalau mau pas di titik target harus di “angkat sedikit” berikut ini adalah hasil dari 41 meter..

Setelah yakin pas zeronya, sayapun menggunakan untuk menembaki metallic silhouette yang sudah dipasang… dengan posisi berdiri saya rata rata bisa menembak 5-7 target dari 20… kalau posisi duduk bisa 15-an.. bahkan beberapa target di 50 meter pun bisa “di hajar” oleh HW77 ini. Demikian laporannya mudah mudahan berguna

It is very difficult to get TX200 in Indonesia, and slightly difficult to get HW77 new in box as well, however when I search in Internet I found someone selling HW77 new in Box… how come..? I thought it is just a scam, so I asked my friend to check it to Jawa timur and he confirmed that this is indeed new in box HW77… So without further ado I bargained and get it at around 7.500.000 or around US$ 750

Yes it is expensive to get airgun in Indonesia, but it will be impossible to buy it online… one does not simply import “gun” :) only people who know their business can import it. so I consider the $750 is a fair price… not a very good deal but fair..

So here is the package has came yesterday.. I feel like Christmas has come early.. :)

And here is my set up.. I added: Scope, one piece mounting and that’s all really… and see how it performs later.. today I just open  the box and setting up the scope… what is the total cost for HW77 below..?

Let’s have a break from the politic noise for a bit.. and talk about my new hobby.. :).  I am starting my new hobby which is air gun… After few weeks looking and trying some airgun type and reading lots of blog and article about airgun, I have few conclusion on what air gun I am going to get..

1. It should be a spring air rifle

I have tried many PCP air gun, from very expensive one (Feinwerkbau, EV2, Steyr etc)  and Locals made by Indonesian in Cipacing … They are really great, I mean Greeeaaat… I can shoot relatively small diameter in 50 meters, it smooth its crisp, its very acurate… but… it is boring as hell… the kind of feeling that you succeeded every time you try… 10 years kid will be able to do it.. :).

I also tried spring air rifle… this rifle has completely different attitude… its kicking, its spitting, and there is a good chance that t will bite and amputate your finger if you are not careful… but that kind of attitude challenge me… its like you have to break a wild horse.. :), so yea this is the airgun for me.

2. It should be fixed barrel

Simply for the accuracy… not that break barrel not accurate, but I find the fixed barrel will eliminate the chance of barrel droop

3. It should be high quality

After so many article reading… my choice come to only two brands… HW77 and TX200 make III. But I do not know where to buy those two… I went to pasar baru and they have few stock brand new HW77… but my best friend told me that HW77 in pasar baru is already tampered, the change the spring, change the stock etc… and its very expensive too… My choice would be TX200 if I can get one and second choice is HW77…. nothing else..!
